Question: Can I pay my DMV registration renewal fee before smogging my vehicle?
Answer: Yes, you can pay your renewal fee now to avoid penalties even if you need a smog test! You may pay the fee online or mail in a check. After you enter your license plate number on the DMV website you will see a message that you need a smog test. Go to the bottom of the page and hit submit then continue to your cart and pay fees.

Answer: If you do not smog your car within 30 days, you will receive a letter from the DMV that says they cannot send the new registration until you pass the smog test.
